„Change yourself, not the climate” street action by Polish Ecological Club Mazovian Branch

On Saturday, October 24, Polish Ecological Club Mazovian Branch organised an action "Change yourself, not the climate" on the Castle Square in the centre of Warsaw. Its main goal was to collect postcards with an appeal for ambitious climate policy to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
By signing the postcards Warsaw inhabitants could support measures aimed in reduction of greenhouse gases emissions, improvement of energy efficiency and development of renewable energy sources. They also declared changing their own behaviour into more climate-friendly one.
It was a continuation of a previous action within the framework of an international campaign of Friends of the Earth called the Big Ask, which was held in Poznan, on 25th August 2009, during a Radiohead concert. Altogether during both actions the organizers collected over 1100 postcards. They were delivered to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister on Monday, October 26.
October 24 was an International Day of Climate Action coordinated by 350.org. Altogether the world saw over 5000 such actions in 180 countries organized by people united around the aim of climate protection, symbolized by number 350. The number stands for safe amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, which is 350 ppm. It is because this level has been already surpassed, that the world has to deal with dangerous consequences of climate change. For this reason, participants of the action “Change yourself, not climate” created a huge banner with 350 from the collected postcards.
